The Bad Day Thread

I am havign a bad day. None of these are that bad individually, but taken together are pretty sucky.

* I overslept by 20 minutes, causing me to get dressed 10 minutes later than usual.
* I got dressed and couldn't find my wallet. Turns out it was in my pants pocket -- the same pair of pants that I put in the washing machine the day before. My wallet is ruined. Searching for said wallet caused me to leave my house 15 mins later than usual.
* I get on the train. Should still make it into work 5 minutes early.
* I have to change lines at a major station (Shibuya), which I do without issue. Train line #2 suddenly stops after going only one station -- turns out there was an accident and one of the trains on the line de-railed. Now I have to take train line #3 to backtrack to Shibuya and take train line #4 to work.
* Eventually make it into work 20 minutes late.
* Get into work and apologize for being late (but I wasn't the only one, at least.)
* Get informed that all the servers are down and the translation I started on last week is not accessible. I can't even bring up my schedule to see what was next on my list.
* Servers supposed to be back up by noon, but it's now 4:30 and they still aren't up yet. I finished all my busy work and now have to sit here twiddling my thumbs for two hours.

A little respect, Mew...
Phil's job is rewarding and important. It's not like he's a chef or something.

Not exactly a Bad Day post but I thought it was worth posting.

In case any of you didn't know on the 1st of January the government made all award standards (Architects, Lawyers etc) Federal - Australia Wide. This meant that we had to get all our staff to re-sign their contractors and it also introduced a maximum rate at which staff can be reimbursements for meal expenses. (exhibit A)

Meal Allowances*
Architectural Staff $7.26
Drafting Staff $11.07
Clerical Staff $12.00
Graphics Staff $11.44
Other Staff $14.20

As you can see Architectural staff got screwed but that is their own fault because they negotiated for other things to be in their contract.

Here is the scenario. One of our Associates (Not an owner, but above the plebs) has done some work out west where he was for the weekend (The accommodation and flights were paid for by the client), has brought me a meal receipt for $36.20 for a lunch he had, asking for full reimbursement.

After conferring with my Financial Controller, as he did not claim any other meal expenses we were willing to reimburse 3x $7.26 = $21.78 (3 Meals for the day)

After informing this to him in an email he went over my head and spoke to both the HR manager and the financial controller (ranting etc), and they finally agreed to reimburse the full amount because it can be charged onto the client.

After being quite pissed with how things turned out (I'm a petty cash Nazi if you didn't know), I realised that this said person has a backlog of 6months worth of charges for using his company mobile to call overseas for private use.

I might have to cough up the $36.20 but there's going to be a deduction of $+70 dollars on his next pay packet.

Morale of the story - Don't go over my head!

Same with Town Planning. There's a process to follow for amended plans and revised plans (before or after an application has been determined) but if you decide to go straight to the director or the Minister instead of putting in a normal plan you can expect to have words to the CCC investigators.

Furthermore, if you lodge a request for reconsideration or an appeal you had better not do it for petty and/or standard conditions. The Commission or the Tribunal can (because it's looking at the application afresh) decide to apply MORE STRINGENT CONDITIONS, or refusal.

Good times.
