Gaming = Cocaine

/facepalm

Let's just get something clear here, so that at least some good can come of this article:
You cannot get "addicted" to a game. Addiction has a physical element. You cannot experience physical withdrawal when you stop playing a game.

The correct term is "obsession", not "addiction".

And this guy is a quack.
Who do you think you are? If you'd stopped winning, you could have been the Biggest Loser, if you gave up, you could have been a Survivor, if you'd stopped reading Orwell, you could have been on Big Brother!

Ah, so he actually admits to being a quack. It says he's a "therapist", but I can't imagine any non-quack organisation wanting him as a member. /sigh

I've heard this banter before, and pope is nothing new. Somewhat disappointing that he brings the term 'chemical imbalance' into the argument as that is enough to send most parents into a frenzy.

I would have liked to him put some actual science behind his 'theory', addiction and gaming.

Dopamine is a chemical substance that continually comes up in this debate. There is a link between dopamine and drug addiction is common, it is released when gaming, but then, its released for anything enjoyable. Sex, working out, eating/food, drinking, etc etc.

A video link on Dopamine and Drug addiction.

TL:DR. Pope can gtfo
