So it turns out that this woman was being abused by her husband, got a restraining order against him, filed for divorce, and got pregnant by a different man during the divorce proceedings. MAybe not the most common thing in the world, but I would be pressured to call it rare.
The problem is Okayama prefecture has a controversion line in its Civil Code saying that all children born within 300 days of divorce must be registered as the child of the divorced parent: in this case, the woman got pregnant from a man other than her husband (remember, the husband was under a restraining order...), and gave birth within that time frame, so now she is suing because the law states that the baby is her ex-husband's -- biology be damned!
