Given the article as a whole, that response by your friend was pure gold.

Users may wish to turn on the privacy mode if they are planning a surprise party, buying presents or researching a medical condition and do not want others users of the same computer to find out.
Sure, that'd be the major reason. Surprise parties. Yep.

I'm sure the author was typing that and thinking to himself, "No matter how I phrase this, EVERYONE'S first thought will be 'porn.'" Talk about caught between a rock and a hard place.

Turns out they stole the copy from this source:

Although “private browsing” can be easily associated with viewing particular genres of media content, the Mozilla foundation argues “while viewing pornography may be a popular use case due to the nature of content on the Web, assuming that this is the only reason that users need private browsing trivializes the overall feature. For instance, users may wish to begin a private browsing session to research a medical condition, or plan a surprise vacation or birthday party for a loved one.”
Surprise!

This sentence is full of win:
"We didn't expect anything like what you have witnessed to occur," said WTF secretary general Yang Jin-suk.

An online beautfy pageant for nuns:

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/08/25/ ... index.html

According to the sponsor, the point is to show the world that not all nuns are old, dour, and wrinkly. That being said, couldn't CNN have found a picture of some non-homely nuns?

A prison guard who survived two tours of duty in Iraq was killed by inmates. It's a tragedy. Once again, though, CNN is on the case with ridiculous writing:

CNN wrote:Prisoners make shanks like the one used to kill Rivera and other weapons from otherwise benign objects: toothbrushes, toilet parts, cookie sheets, ice picks and kitchen utensils, to name a few. Gang rivalries exacerbate a volatile situation.
Really? Benign objects like ICE PICKS?

CNN talking about the US presidential race and the effect that John McCain's choice of VP candidate will have on likely voters:

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08 ... pstoryview
Almost 6 in 10 Americans say Palin's selection as McCain's running mate will have no effect on their vote. One in five say it makes them more likely to vote for McCain; one in five say it makes them less likely.
OK: WHY do you have "6 in 10" (using numbers) and then "one in five" using words? Additionally -- and this may be hard to grasp for the retards at CNN -- *five and ten share a common denominator.* If you inist on going with "6 in 10", then why aren't the next two both "2 in 10"? Or even better, just make it "3 in 5" and 1 in 5" or "six in ten" and "two of ten". For fucks sake, my eyes are bleeding.

Nine sevenths of all journalists failed their stats and basics maths units, I see.

Also:

There are lies, damn lies, statistics and then journalism.
