For those that are interested.

My team recently had a match in the Cybergamer Open ladder 4v4 Left for Dead which was shoutcasted by Gamestah... It goes for 2 hours...

http://www.gamestah.com/on-demand/4/3255

I came in about half way through :P

MaXa is my callsign.

On another note I wanted to ask those who know a thing or two about the subject. I tend to get a ping of about 150 when connecting to Eastern State servers in L4D. I was wondering if there was a way of lowering that through either software, tunneling, upgrading to ADSL2 as there was an exchange put in recently. What would be the best option for reducing my latency.

150ms isn't too shabby (we host CG's L4D servers btw, among others, so you were playing on a Cart Brand (tm) server), since the game tends to overestimate your ping by around 30ms.

Which ISP are you with?

Do us a favour and crank out a traceroute?

*Start menu -> Run
*cmd
*In zee black box, type the following:

Code: Select all

cd \
tracert 118.127.16.237 > nile_trace.txt
*The cursor will sit there blinking for a while, wait until it returns to the normal prompt again (C:\)
*There will be a text file in the root of your C:\ drive: nile_trace.txt. Pop the copypasta in a post here.

Yeah... Myself and Xeion are the two who are at every match. Xeion usually handles admin for the team while I handle in game strats and leading matches.

When I got there at the start of DA03 they were 200 points down. Then it was turned around for a win of around 4000 points.

To be fair though, once your guys got 4 players and before you joined, they did pretty damn well - that round just before you replaced Barbie was superb, they took out all 4 with a boomer, 2 hunters and a smoker.

WRT your ping:

Straight away you're about 20ms higher than us just in WA.
Once you hop over to the Eastern states, you're going through Vocus and they're tacking an extra 60ms to your ping, where we're going Amnet -> PIPE and only getting 45ms on top.
There's not really much you can do to fix this (beyond switching ISPs to Amnet, who will use PIPE rather than Vocus).

And I take it that wouldn't prove very effective anyway :P

Oh and Barbie isn't one of our best players but she held her own extremely well holding my position before I got home from work.

Improving the routing might improve your ping by 20-30 ms - but if your exchange, or your connection to the exchange is the main problem, it doesn't matter who you're with or what their routing is like.

You can sometimes try to talk your ISP into changing your routing, but it's certainly not a sure bet.

Also:
Professional question (feel free not to answer): Who's hosting your scrim server/s for L4D?

Lol. Cheers Cart. I would imagine Obs would know ISP policies on improving my routing. As for a scrim server. The clan doesn't have a personal L4D server. Generally we've filled a game with friends or removing clan tags and playing in pubs. What are you thinking Cart? :P

Well at first I was thinking of poaching you if you were already with another host.

As you're not, I'll have a look at setting up a "Molotov" l4d server - I'll ask if there's any interest from the people in the Other Gaming forum.
