PSP.... worth it or not?

Hi guys, for the last 6 months everyday at lunch i watch [insert random tv show] on my Ipod nano whilst having lunch.
The screen is rather small and im sick of converting videos over to .h264.
How good is the PSP at being a portable video player, do videos have to be re-encoded or can it play divx/xvid etc?
I understand that a larger Memory card would be needed but I know what im in for.
What do you guys think?
*Edit* also gaming on the train etc is a gee gee.

i have had a psp for like 2 years
1) can mod without hardware change *need bigger card though* i have 2x 4gb and 1x 2gb
2) nice screen.
3) sound is awesome
4) with the right software (application) it will play alot more than standard psp. but often needs to be reencoded.
get one now.
i play ps1 games on it, or just surf the net, watch random shit

I currently view them on an ipod nano so a psp is like a fucking 42" lcd in comparison.

psp has an awesome screen.
good wifi even if it is only 11b
lots of third party apps..
you need to mod (think software mod) it to play those apps and also pirate YARRR games.
dcemu.co.uk used to have a big archive of homebrew check out what you think..
also acidmods.com has alot of hardware mods..
anyway i have had a psp for almost 3 years now. very awesome still gets use.

Yo Baka, i bought my sister a PSP about a year ago. it got use for about 4months before the door that holds catridge in got busted and no longer closes.
Worth fixing for traing to/from work?

Seems Sony will be adding divx etc codec in firmware 4.0
