If it's WoW performance you're worried about, a budget card will make it flip tricks (relatively speaking).

If you want it to render your pron in HD at a resolution of 5x5million then I guess you'll have to go with something schweeter.

Have a mosey on over to http://www.dansdata.com - he usually has something insightful to say on these topics, and regularly answers reader queries similar to yours.

My mate just got a new comp with a 9600GTX (even though i told him not too, 9600 performance looks weak so far), but they are good I suppose, but maybe not bang for buck.

I myself have a 8800GTX and its great, I play WoW at 1680x1050 with everything max, 32bit full AA AF the lot, and I never lag (except Illidan phase 3 or 4 whatever in 2.4). I'm not sure how much they are now, but if all your doing is playing wow it'll do the job.

Also note I play CS Source, DOD Source and Assassins creed(atm) with the same settings/res and don't have a problem.

*edit* Just had a look at centrecom's website, still around $300ish, damn good cards though.

The few reviews I've seen (on Tom's Hardware and the like) have pegged the 9600GT at about the same levels as the 8800s or marginally better. Which given they're up to $100 cheaper makes them ok in my books. Of course, that's being said without having actually run either.

is it really worth the extra $$ for a performance aka gaming mb?
they are alot more expensive and i dont need sli, overclocking or like.. shit
would the only diff be the chipset etc?
does it really matter?

Hey Baka... I don't know what the hell this thing does, but it sounds impressive and it's pretty cheap. You should totally get one.

Apparently newer technology means fewer strokes and less irritation.

If you're not wanting it for SLI or overclocking, then no, it's not worth the extra monies. Generally speaking, I'd probably recommend about the same stuff that's listed in Sat's new PC thread.
