Full Metal Jacket was good pie, as was the Shining, despite being based on a Stephen King novel.

Kubrick was a great film maker. His use of colour for one thing to reflect character moods and juxtapositions was indeed very very good. If you haven't already seen it, check out 'Eyes Wide Shut'. It wasn't a perfect film (but it had Tom Cruise in it, say no more) but its production values were strong and Kubrick manipulated its background contrasts beautifully. His skill came in making the film itself tell snippets of stories, not just the actors in it.

Ah, sometimes I miss my old Arts degree days, before I started jumping on bodies for a living.
