Creepy Jehovah's Witness Video
Yes, that's right - raise your children to be unable to tell the difference between reality and make-believe.
They'll be more likely to stick around in the Jehovah's Witnesses that way...

Kiwi Emmigration to Australia
http://www.theglobalmail.org/feature/the-hollowing-out-of-new-zealand/246/ Interesting. I know we have a few Kiwis here who've taken advantage of the relatively open arrangement between Oz and NZ - I'm curious to see if there are any insights from people on the ground (in WA I haven't encountered Ki...

Gayvoice - Is it real?

Do zee survey - I got 40%.
(for the record, I don't think "gayvoice" exists in any applicable sense)

Re: Oh noes South Korea - don't do it
Ja, I saw some video footage of the charismatic churches a few weeks back - scary stuff.
...yet somehow less creepy than the sweaty, mouthbreathing Southern evangelical pastors - the ones who heal people in the name of JAYZUZ!

Re: For Mew (HIJACKED! This thread is now about baking)
Con wanted me to ask about wholemeal - is there a ratio of wholemeal : white that you'd recommend to keep from having a really dense loaf? The recipe she's currently using is 4:5 starter to flour, and she's been doing 100% wholemeal flour as well as 50:50 wholemeal/white. (the starter gets pretty mu...

Re: For Mew
She was originally throwing ice into a tray below the loaves when she put them in. More recently she's just putting water in as the oven heats up, before the loaves go in - tbh she experiments a lot without giving any variable much of a chance at repeated efforts :-P Not sure what you're asking abou...

Re: For Mew
It's a good excuse, but really you'd find better baking Australia; NZ bakeries are shithouse comparative to other countries. It's all mass crap and the NZ population is use to eating soft breads, and not paying for hand made pastries, where our artisan stuff has a really solid crunching crust, it's...

Re: "Doctors for Family" - ho-hum
My interpretation is that marriage, while vaguely part of the picture, is mostly just a proxy battle. Allowing gay folk to get married implies that homosexuality has the imprimatur of the government, which implies it's ok, which means that being gay is ok. And there's a large subset of people that ...

Re: "Doctors for Family" - ho-hum
It's nice to see that professionals can keep personal beliefs and work separate. ...And the keyword is "beliefs", since they're presenting their argument as a statement of fact - "children do better from families with a mother and father" - when that's a dishonest representation of the results of v...

"Doctors for Family" - ho-hum
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/13672695/doctors-group-says-heterosexual-marriage-better-for-kids/ So a subset of the bigoted religious folk who oppose same-sex marriage and who happen to be doctors are now opposing it as doctors. Whereas the representative of people who are doctors re...

Re: A step in the right direction
Also, I would direct your attention to the last page in this survey, which is a survey of attitudes in Mississippi toward a variety of subjects. The TLDR of it is that 46% of Mississippians are AGAINST INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE. Which is one of the reasons people are getting frustrated with Obama's luke...
