Spoken Word
This is probably going to be slightly niche (I assume Cart and Phil may be interested and there might be others hiding out there), but does anyone have any spoken word poets they'd strongly recommend? I've been binging on Buddy Wakefield and Nicole Blackman, but I'm looking for others that are simil...

Re: Acrophobiacs beware
Fuck that. On so many levels. I was thinking I could see how it could, maybe, be cool (if you didn't have acrophobia, which I do), up until they hit the base of the actual antenna. Then it just got silly. Surely there's a more effective way to build/maintain that sort of thing, that isn't borderline...

Re: All We Read is Freaks
Thanks Cart, that was a really wonderful read. Although now I'm trying to figure out how to get a copy of the book as well. Hopefully you're right about the december re-issue. His articles at Pitchfork are really impressive as well. Seems they stopped in mid 2009 though, which is a real shame.

Don't think anyone's linked http://www.rockpapercynic.com before and it's well worth checking out. Bit hit or miss, but generally worthwhile. It's Sort of like asofterworld... Which I've possibly never linked either. http://www.rockpapercynic.com/strips/2010-08-23.jpg http://www.rockpapercynic.com/s...

Re: Awesome Justin Bieber Audio clip (not ironic)
Yep. I had someone email this to me the other day (and I was impressed/bemused enough to give it air time). It's vaguely reminiscent of sigur ros at times and is definitely a damn sight better than his work at 1/1 speed. *edit* I was wondernig how long it would take the two memes to converge... Rick...

Re: Care in naming
It's called the Tea Party movement now, but when they started out they actually referred to themselves (not the movement) as teabaggers, because they carried teabag around (as a reference to the whole Boston Tea Party thing). Then, eventually, someone pointed out the hilarity of the name and they st...

Care in naming
So, I'm assuming everyone is at least vaguely aware of the Teabagger movement in the USA and the somewhat unsavoury sexual connotations that the term denotes. Well... welcome the new comic book hero of the movement: Microman. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/1589808738/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8...

So... That was great. The Wes Anderson one was pitch perfect. (Lynch was good, but could have been better).

Re: Oh for Christ's Sake
Yeah, sorry, I should have been more specific. I understand why certain people hate Hugo Chavez (Pat Robertson owns a mine in Liberia from memory, so he also probably has a financial stake in Venezuala), I just don't understand how it became fashionable for almost every single media personality to s...

It really is a terrible precedent to let him use this as part of his defense though. Given it seems to be an established defense in that thar state, I'm guessing that ship has sailed. My reading on it has actually suggested that this is the first time a defendant has been allowed to use the self-de...

Well... given he killed a man in cold blood, I guess that proves your point. ;) But really, how could you not be saved, watching Pat Robertson. After all, once you realise that homosexuality caused the September 11 attacks, Voodoo caused the Haitian earthquake, loose morals caused the New Orleans fl...

Re: Globalised Racism?
While I'd agree (in an Australian context) that it's not racist, KFC is a southern US company, so they should perhaps be a little more careful at a depiction that from American eyes really is clear-cut racism (deep-fried chicken calming black people...). Of course, I'm sure this ad was developed by ...
